COUNTERPOINT with Uncle Milty
Uncle Milty, pal of Mr Koppa going all the way back to second grade who became the fifth-grade forward unafraid of the baseline jumper, offers lunar political counterpoints to the left-leaning and lanky then-center in the middle of the completely defendable 1-3-1.
Sorry for missing last month's addition but my life is pretty hectic right now with work and the holidays. This might be brief this month as well but I am sure all you leftys wont mind.
Obama is the President elect. Yes it is historic even though he really isnt black--he is partly black but not all black. That is being picky I guess. Lets say he is black for argument sake. Historic indeed. Parties in the streets, people cryin and pointing to the heavens. You would have thought Jesus was walking down the street. Crazy... with that I would have thought the earth would have stopped revolving and the birds would have started singing again but to the contrary..
The next day the stock market plunged again. The economy is getting worse ( Bush's fault I am sure) and the wrold does keep spinning on its axis. I have been watching his moves, trying to stay optimistic but some things I have to shake my head over.
His first move was Chief of Staff. For someone who wanted to unity, he picked the wrong guy to do it. This guy was on CLinton's staff and was the biggest Republican hater you could find...No love there. Second thing to happen was the President of Iran praising the choice of the Americans on their new leader....wow, that is something we needed. Now I see he has nominated Hillary for Sec of State. Great move. Laughable.
We havent seen much action yet but we shouldnt--he is the elect, not the President but I thought of something funny. If the Republicans really wanted to get under The Demos skin, Bush should resign, then Cheney should resign and then we would have the first Black, woman President--Rice. I would laugh for days if that happened. < I could go on for hours about this or that but I wont. I know, I know, embrace the man and give him a chance. I will--really I will but I am here to give the counterpoint. Lets see what he does and tune in if you want to hear the other side of the story.
I AM TIRED OF THIS-ARE YOU?
I don't know about all of you but I have about had it with politics and this election. It is getting down to the end and so the BS really starts flying. The more I think about it, the more I think the candiate that is elected will be the person that can run more negative/false ads, say more untruthful or bending the truth things or who has more money to outspend the other guy. I watch some of the news shows at night or the follow ups after a debate and it is just down right disheartening. Not that my guy might actual loose this race but because the spin and posturing is just sickening.
I know I agreed to write this blog and you know what--after this election, I will try to pick up on crazy topics in politics, but right now, I just dont have the energy for this fight. We will talk briefly today about this race and do a wrap up after the election next month but then after that...who knows.
Most of you have probably made your decision already so there is no sense in trying to persuade you from the "dark" side to the promise land; but a few comments:
This economic crisis is not a good issue for McCain. Better one for Obama--why? Because everyone is blaming it on Bush and the one thing McCain and Bush have in common--they are Republican. But when you look at some of the tag lines for Obama and what he wants to do--cant you people see the flaw in his agenda? Obama talks about giving a tax break to 95% of the Americans in this country. I scream "What about the other 5%!" The other 5% are going to get jacked. Robin Hood thing--take from the rich and give to the poor. It is the Democratic way, or should I say the Liberal way. But the problem with that is the people you are taking money from are the small business owners, people that create jobs, invest in the economy etc..So--if you take from them, you are only hurting the economy. Even liberal economists say that YOU CANT TAX IN A RECESSION. It will be a disaster.
In talking with my brother, who is quite well off ( one of the 5% people), he owns a small business which has about 20 employees. He told me that if you tax him more, it is not like he is just going to take it out of his bank account and pay the piper. Nope--he will make up that increased taxes on him by cutting expenses--EMPLOYEES or BENEFITS. So who did the tax increase just hurt? If you ask anyone what they will do if taxed more--same thing. So Obama--makes no sense. He thinks that you can just redistribute wealth and have no ramifications. WRONG. Besides it is just inheritantly unfair to give someone a tax rebate/credit who doesnt even play taxes and jack the class of people that presently pay the most taxes. I am all in favor of our fair share but we have that under the present tax brackets--it is not even fair but atleast it is less than it was. Someone under 30,000 doesnt even pay taxes, 30K-70K might pay 10%, 70K-120K might pay about 20% and above that--35%. What is really wrong with that? Why do we need to go even higher than 35% on the higher wealth people. We need those people to spur the economy--doesnt he see that? Whatever... McCain wants to keep the tax brackets as they are and YES give tax cuts to the small businesses and corporations. Do you know why this isnt a bad thing? Because they create jobs, they invest in the economy, they will bring it back--the middle class wont. People just dont get it. We need jobs--who creates them?--Rich people. We need jobs to stay in America--who will do that--Rich people if you stop regulating the hell out of them and taxing them --right now they cant compete so why do you think they ship jobs overseas? Yeah they are greedy bastards but you know what? People arent in business to loose money. SO if you give them an even playing field here--they will keep jobs here. That simple!
Energy--YEAH we need an alternative fuel but we have to become independent NOW. Did you see that Brazil just found oil off their coast and it will make them a superpower in the world of oil? The Associated Press had a story that it will change their economy and infuse money into their society. Fixing all problems and reviving a dead economy down there. A DAH--why the hell dont we see that it will do the same for us? Have to look at this short term and long term solutions. Obama says that we have like 3% of the worlds oil so it wont even help--FLAT OUT LIE. We have more oil under Alaska and Colorado than Saudi Arabia. We WILL be a superpower in oil if we would actually drill for it. He just has the tree huggers in his pocket and he wants gas to be expensive--will force us to find a different source. Maybe forcing us is what we need to do--but does that sound like a policy that is for the middle class--for the common man while they get killed at the pumps? Lets beat the shit out of the American people before we actually provide an answer. Or make the economy look so bad so that when we fix it--or not, we look like the heros. Just corrupt! Drill now--produce our own oil --we are ALWAYS going to need it to some extent, and while we do it, develop alternatives. Doesnt that just sound logical? if you agree--that is McCain. Obama says it will take to long to drill now--that is the new argument. BULLSHIT--experts say we can be up and running in 1 year! Just not in his vision.
I can go on and on about every issue that Obama has but you know what--no use. I saw a rally on TV for McCain where a guy got up and said" I can not believe that people are so taken with this Obama guy. Fight for us, fight for what makes sense. I can not believe we live in a world where people dont look at the plans this man has and see all the problems with implementing them." Now I paraphrase but that is the jist of what he said. I agree. I can not believe that we are going to elect this guy. With him in the White House and Palosi (sp?) and Reid contolling Congress--we are in big trouble. This Congress right now has the lowest approval rating in history! It is run by the Democrats and now you want to put another one in the White House.
All I can hope for is that the Republicans do what the Democrats did when the Republicans controlled the White House and Congress in the 2002. The Democrats just wouldnt let them vote on anything --FILABUSTER! Probably spelled that wrong too--terrible at spelling. My friend Meyer always calls me on it. Know what--I dont have spellcheck on this blog--talk to Koppa.
I am serious--I hope the Republicans FILABUSTER the shit out of the Democrats just like they did to us. The time has come to start playing hardball not softball.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL. President Obama--just say it--President Obama. How ridculous.
