All Around Al's World of Sound: Harvest 08

by Mike Koppa last modified 2008-10-15 00:18

Back in third grade, my friend Al liked music and baseball. Al is still my friend, and he still likes music and baseball. He was a breakdancer in high school. And we looked at his dad's Playboys.

STUFFED UP

September 15th, 2008 Hello. I just returned home from CA last night. I was visiting Jenevieve and Dan, and their newborn baby girl, Jaden. She's beautiful. Babies are amazing little works of art... that sleep, smile, eat and poop. It's crazy how many hours you can spend watching a newborn do those four exact things and somehow you never get bored. At least I didn't.

I'm sick. Was it from sitting in a plane amongst 200 people breathing in stale air for 4 hours? Was it going from a climate of 90 degrees and sun, to a grey, dreary and rainy 60 degrees in WI? Perhaps just allergies? I don't know, maybe all three. In any case, It's rare that I get sick - in fact, I can't remember the last time I was sick. I don't like it at all.

Oh, I should probably write something about music. I listened to a lot of music while I went for my daily morning runs out in CA last week. Jen and Dan live just north of L.A., up in some pretty scenic mountains. That may have been the best part of my vacation: running, listening to tunes, and thinking about... things. I won't specifically tell you what I was thinking about but the next time I see you I just might tell you. Or maybe I won't.

OK, so that paragraph really wasn't about music either. Sorry. This was what was loaded on my Shuffle for my trip:

September 24, 2008 Hello, just a brief update. This damn cold just keeps hanging on. I am feeling better, but still not 100%. I haven't ran since I was in CA, so in effect I haven't listened to much music lately. However, I am pretty psyched to get the new TV On The Radio disc, Dear Science, which was just released yesterday. Maybe I'll write about that the next time around.

Has anyone else been witnessing the Milwaukee Brewers piss away their playoff chances? Not that they've been eliminated just yet, but it would be a real shame for them not to see the post-season, especially with the year that they've had up until the last couple of weeks. For those of you who may have forgotten, or may not have been born yet, the last time the Brewers played baseball in October was in 1982. To give you some visuals of how long ago that really was, this song spent a few weeks in the pop charts and I was wearing red checkboard Vans the last time the Brewers made the playoffs. But check that video out - what's up with the guys in Toto? Did the percussionist and keyboardist borrow their sisters' glasses especially for the video shoot? Anyway, CC Sabathia is killin' it right now, which is good. That guy can pitch. Too bad the Brewers don't have a chance in hell of resigning him after this season.

Have a good evening.
