PB & J
June 14, 2008 OK, I know I’m supposed to talk about music, but seriously, what the hell is going on with the weather? All of this rain on top of what was the worst winter in over 30 years – insane to say the least. Mr. Koppa sent some pictures of his town and it wasn’t looking good over there. I believe the pic that he'd sent was from like 3 or 4 days ago, and I’m sure there’s been more rain in that area since then. I do hope that our gracious host and his family, and all HDP writers/readers for that matter, are doing well and that you have all been relatively unaffected by Mother Nature on HGH.
I really don’t have much to talk about this moon, regarding music. I think the only disc I’ve bought in the past month is Keep Your Eyes Ahead from the Helio Sequence, which is pretty good. To sum it up, it sounds sort of like if a young Bob Dylan from 1964 somehow stole Marty McFly’s/Doc Brown’s Delorean, traveled to 1986 and started listening to The Cure, Psychedelic Furs and U2 circa Unforgettable Fire (aka Bono with a mullet), jumped back into the Delorean and headed for 2008, then found a recording studio and familiarized himself with Pro Tools. If any of that sounds appealing then you might like Keep Your Eyes Ahead.
I’m still listening to the mixed disc that I got for my birthday back in April. I’m listening to it right now, as a matter of fact. Van Morrison’s Soul just ended and I really like the simple, straightforward nature of the lyrics:
Soul is the feeling deep within
Soul is not the color of your skin
Soul is the essence, the essence from within
Soul is where everything begins…
I don’t think you can get any more economical and direct than that. It’s nothing tricky at all, just a very simple and touching sentiment. I just went to look up what album that song is from and the name of the album couldn’t have been more apropos: Keep It Simple. Seriously though, don’t you feel like some of the best things in life end up being the most basic of things? Simple and perfect like a grade school lunch. Now I feel like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of milk. Too bad I don’t have anything in my fridge except for a pitcher of water, a bottle of wine, and some condiments. Now that’s keeping it simple.
Have a good evening. Stay dry.
