Talkin' Shoppa with Mr Sloppa: Harvest 08

by Mike Koppa last modified 2008-10-15 01:05

With the definition of art as "the arrangement of things in space" being the best I've ever heard, I stick to it. It's amazing how much ground that covers. In these lunar blogs I illustrate it best I can.

Hopping across Wisconsin

September 15, 2008 The Harvest Moon...what better to blog about than some kind of harvest? In this case, about a week ago, I happened to be in Smellwaukee for the opening reception of a show of my collages at Grava Gallery. Spent the night at Dr Lappenstein's pad, and in the morning picked two pounds of cascade and chinook hops off the side of his house for Mr Lenz, a beer brewing friend at work.

Seventy-five copies of A CALL TO FARMS, hot off the press, had been shipped to the gallery for a book signing nobody attended. So I had to pack up the books, the hops, and my overnight bag on my new transport, the 1984 Moto Guzzi 850 T5. Guzzi for short.

I lost two and a half pounds of organic cheese on I-94 east of Madison, about seven miles before Lake Mills thanks to poor packing. I wasn't about to make the same mistake with $50 worth of hops, which is where the bungies and zip-locs come in handy.

It happened to be a beautiful sunny day and the fresh hops were sweating up a storm by the time I got them to the Lenz rez Saturday night. Mr Lenz was pleased with the delivery, and promised to brew a batch of beer with yours truly later this winter. That'll be another example of how things can be arranged in a space.
