Lunarly Speaking in 2011

PINK MOON 2011

It's 11:35 on the eve of the full moon and I'm ahead of schedule. Maybe it's time to slow down. It's been a good four months of progress while we waited for the snow to go and it's forecast to come back tomorrow. I spent most of my allotted time for art on cleaning, painting, unpacking, and organizing the Alphabetter Creative Workshop.

You might look at these photos and go, "What progress?" It's not much to look at if you don't have the vision, but I know what I like, and I like what I see.

I recently spent a few days working with a man who wants to sell his cemetery monument lettering business. His primary job is adding death dates to the cemetery stones in southwest Wisconsin. I enjoyed the time I spent with him, and decided to quit my job to take over his business.

There is, of course, a much longer, more romantic story behind all this, but you won't get it for free on the internet. No, I've decided that's enough of this. This is the last entry on heavydutypress.com. No more updates, no more maintenance, no more time.

From now on, if you'd like to stay current with Mr Koppa, you can all go to alphabettercreative.com. (The link is temporarily inactive.)

WOLF MOON 2011

It's midnight. I just stepped outside to look at the full moon, centered in the sky. It's silent out there, nearly perfectly still, but nothing ever is. The only sound came from the rope slapping against the flagpole in the courthouse courtyard across the street, over there. It's easy to be introspective when there are no other inputs demanding attention. These Wolf Moons are always so peaceful and inspiring.

My entire pile of studio fixtures, including the type, the presses, the collage material, and the framing tables, has been moved into the Forgotten Works Warehouse. I am in the process of settling into a new space.

Unpacking the press is exciting. I am thinking about how nice it will be when I get to work with my hands and physical type again. It has been nearly 7 years since it was packed up under the Buck Moon of 2004.

we are all together

I recently completed eight new collages, the 1 + 1 = 1 series. This new series, among other work, is showing and for sale at the U-Frame-It Gallery on East Johnson Street in Madison, Wisconsin, through the month of January.

The earth continues to revolve on its axis as it orbits the sun, just as it has for billions of years, and I am, and we are, closer to being in tune. With the grace of God, there will be much more interesting news to post under the Pink Moon in April. I'm optimistic.
