What am I?

by Mike Koppa last modified 2009-09-08 23:23

This site exists for one reason. I am an artist living in the 21st century and people I respect have told me that I have to have a website. I believed them and spent 2+ years putting it together. And now, other than quarterly routine maintenance and uploading new books, collages, or music as it comes, I'm done with it.

As mentioned in my artist's statement, I do not profess to be an expert on anything I do. This is not a site for scholars. Over the years, I have observed that my audience is young people. I'm not going to pin an age to them, but I will say that at a certain age the mind is still open and a person is not jaded by the realities we put ourselves into when we follow the traditional path of development: get an education, earn money, and buy things to make yourself happy to make all the working for someone else worth the effort, stress, frustration, and disappointment. Aside from working for someone else (which most of us have to do...doing what someone else wants us to to for them), I believe it is critically important to do the things YOU want to do for yourself.

That should explain the tone and language you will find at The Heavy Duty Press. I'm not here to impress anyone. I'm here to have a little fun and share a little thinking. I hope to inspire young people (or anyone else, for that matter) to live smart, healthy, and adventurous lives. I hope to inspire them to be good stewards of the earth. I hope to inspire them to think outside the—hey...What box?

I'd rather not preach to the choir. I like to think that this website might be a fun one for someone to stumble into when they're bored. If you're in the choir and you feel like I'm preaching to you, if it comes across as amateurish, childish, or immature...I don't know...either tolerate it or leave, I guess. Let's face it, the web has the potential to reach EVERYONE...around the globe. You could be a veteran type designer in Switzerland. You could be a teenager in Iran. You could be a villager in the Andes Mountains. To you I might be wealthy...and to someone else I might be lower-middle class. It's a great big world and we're all on it.

All in all, I hope this website captures three big Es. I hope you will find it to be Excellent Educational Entertainment.

Tangentially yours,
Mr Koppa
