Collage: The Art of Surprise

by Mike Koppa last modified 2010-08-09 07:30

Art is the relationship of things in a space. I am attracted to a variety of images, both consciously and subconsciously, for lots of different reasons. Through free association amidst a carefully selected and limited library of source material, I stumble upon surprising relationships and juxtapositions which may mean something or nothing, but always satisfy my craving for amusement. All collages are constructed of commercially printed paper predating the bicentenial of the United States of America, the Atari 2600, compact discs, and, yes, the world wide web. These are made of paper from the age of print. Paper from the machine age. Lots of us didn't live in the machine age. Some of us did. Are you one of the machine people? Or are you one of the digital people? Anybody remember Digital Derby[1]? Not too digital.
