This is how it started.

In 1995, a group of wanna-be-somthing mid-20-year-olds in Milwaukee put it all together got busy printing and publishing writing by local authors and art by local artists. The goal was to publish a series of four seasonal anthologies. The first book, Springtime, was printed and published in 1996. It was followed the same year by the second book, Crux 2, in the summer. Things fell apart when our editor, Jen Kulbeck, moved to San Francisco.

The exciting news about CRUX is that a man named Dave Jarecki, former co-worker of Dan Roubik—assistant to the editor of the Springtime and Summer books—recently contacted me from Portland, OR—via Facebook, I think—to investigate exactly what was behind Crux. Turns out Dan had given him a copy of Crux 2 when they worked together at the bookstore, and he's been carrying it with him through several moves.

To make a long story short, Mr Jarecki and I have been talking, and it looks like we're going to see Crux 3 and 4 soon. He has agreed to assume the editor-in-chief role and get us at least through the Autumn Crux, which we hope to publish in 2010.

Let's keep in mind that the press is still in mothballs as of September 4, 2009. The plan is to put down the web (as soon as this Corn Moon 2009 update is done), and get busy preparing to set up the press. Then I have to set up the press. Then we do the book. If it's not 2010, it'll be fall 2011. But it's going to happen, and that's exciting whether you like it or not.
